I must say that this has been the most enriching English course I have ever taken. I found it interesting and significant that we consistently traced back to the Declaration of Human Rights in our projects to give us further understanding of them. With our Human Rights Article Assignment, I enjoyed how we challenged our thinking by discussing complex real-life situations in which these rights collide and contradict each other. I also liked our use of Weebly in the course and felt that our use of electronics was more organized and mature than in Futures Forums.
For the Individual Film Review, I was given feedback to have more flexibility in my organization since, with the assignment being presented in website format, it would help my readers navigate through what I write more easily. When I came back to the assignment for revision I broke down some of the larger paragraphs to the text would be better divided into topics. I also divided the text with subheadings of the different parts of the movie since I wrote it as a summary with the abuse and cinematography analysis tied in as I progressed through the plot rather than in three separate topics. I applied some of these organization skills and ideas to my Kite Runner blog posts as well.
I feel that I learned a lot from our use of The Kite Runner in this course. It was a book that I probably wouldn't have chosen to read on my own, but in the end it was a pleasure to read with its emotional depth and I found great meaning in it. The way that we were encouraged to analyze and make connections in (and beyond) the text through assignments and collaborative work helped me gain more experience in analytical thinking and I believe that I have improved in this area over this semester.
I also believe that the areas that I should focus on improving are time management and confidence in my work. I found that with some of the essays and paragraphs we did I would get really worried about whether my ideas would be good enough, which was a lack of confidence that often proceeded to stunt my ability to get work done efficiently. I should improve on my ability to allow myself to feel confident about my work to avoid these decreases of productivity.
